Aurore's profile.

Aurore is a leader in Duchy college. She's 22 years old. She likes reading, going to the cinema, sports. She has got a dog who is Princesse. Her dog is 1 and a half year old. Aurore lives near Puy-en-velay.

Some scientists decided to do the following experiments on a flea.

For the first experiment, they cut one of the flea's legs, then they told the flea to jump. The flea jumped, so they learned that a flea could jump with just five legs.

For the second experiment, they cut off a second leg from the flea, then they told the flea once more to jump. The flea was still able to jump with only four legs.

Then they began again, until the flea did not have legs anymore.

As a result of these experiments, the scientists wrote in their final report that the flea became deaf after having all legs cut off.

Three men, an Italian, a French and a Spanish went for a job interview in England. Before the interview, they were told that they must compose a sentence in English with three main words: green, pink and yellow.

The Italian was first:
"I wake up in the morning. I see the yellow sun. I see the green grass and I think to myself, I hope it will be a pink day."

The Spanish was next:
"I wake up in the morning, I eat a yellow banana, a green pepper and in the evening I watch the pink panther on TV."

Last was the French:
"I wake up in the morning, I hear the phone "green...green...", I pink up the phone and I say "Yellow ?..."

Day 2: Dear diary, today we had an English brunch. I loved it!!! There were bacon & eggs, baked beans, tomatoes, potatoes, croissant or chocolate croissant, sausages, cereals, bread...

Day 6: Dear diary, this evening, we were to a casino party. It wasn’t real money; it was some stones, which were painted. Fortunately! We could play to “find the ball”, “roulette”, “poker”, “black jack”... I liked it because it was fun and there was music.

Day 7: Dear diary, I went to the swimming-pool this afternoon. It was OK. And I await the party called the “Saturday night fever” impatiently!!! I hope there’ll be some good music and a lot of things to eat...

Mai-Thi's Diary (Day 3)

For the first day of english lessons, we had a test to know our level. We were seperated into six classes. After the test we had a short english lesson. Then, at 1 pm, we went to eat in the canteen. In the afternoon, many of us played basketball and the others made decorations for their room. After the dinner, in the evening, we have evening activities. We had a choice between “Speed Dating”, “Box-K” and “Bataille Navale”. We went to sleep at 11 pm.

E.coli bacteria

disclaimer: no students were infected by this while at Duchy, I just have a keen interest... weird I know.

E. coli is a common type of bacteria that can get into food, such as beef and vegetables. E. coli is short for the medical term Escherichia coli. The strange thing about these bacteria — and lots of other bacteria — is that they're not always harmful to you.

E. coli lives inside your intestines, where it helps your body break down and digest the food you eat. Certain types (called strains) of E. coli can get from the intestines into the blood. This is a rare illness, but it can cause a very serious infection. One very bad strain of E. coli was found in fresh spinach in 2006 and some fast-food hamburgers in 1993. Beef can contain E. coli because the bacteria often infect it.

Adults must be sure to clean food containers after every meal and make sure all meat is properly cooked. But kids can help, too. Here are three ways:

1. When you're at a restaurant, order your burger well done. Eat it only if it's brown, not pink.

2. Don't drink lake, ocean, or pool water. If the water contains any human waste, it can carry the E. coli bacteria.

3. Always wash your hands after you use the bathroom and before you eat.

Dear Diary,

On Thursday, the 14^th, we woke up at 7:30. Next we went to the restaurant for breakfast : we ate chocolate coissants. After words, we went to school and wrote a little story with Shelly and a presentation with Jonathan. Next we went to the restaurant again for lunch : we ate hamburgers. In the afternoon, at two o’ clock, we played basketball, football abnd field hockey. I love basketball and hockey but I hate football. In the evening, we organised a casino at Sam’s cafe. That was very funny and we won lots of money ! But at 22:30, we were very tired and went to bed !

Day 5

Dear diary,

Today, we had English lessons in the morning. We ate lunch and we went to Eden project. We saw lots of different kinds of plants (tropical plants, mediteraneen plants...).

We stayed at the Eden Project for two hours. We returned to Duchy College and had free time for one hour. We ate dinner at six o’clock.

For our Evening activity, we played a game called “chocolate rally”.

In this game, we throw the dice and we had a forbeit. The number of the dice give a forbeit. For exemple, if you get the number two, you must dance or run...

We went to sleep at ten past ten.

On Thursday, we got up at 7.30 pm. We had breakfast. We went to college at 9.30 pm.

We finished school at 12.45 pm and we had a lunch. We made a sport competition; than basketball, football and hockey or we made a decoration for the evening activity.

We had free time and we had a dinner. We made a casino for the evening activity and we went to sleep.

Day 11:

Today, we ate breakfast at 8:10. Next, at 9:00 we went to school for 3 hours. After school we eat lunch, we had potatoes. After school, we played dodge ball. In the evening we didn’t got evening activities because in dodge ball, 2 people were fighting and at the diner we were too noisy.

DEAR DIARY:

In the morning, we went to lessons and talked about the Eden project.

In the afternoon: we went to the Eden project , there were a lot of flowers .

We visited two biomes , the Rainforest and the Mediteranean Biomes.

The rainforest warm , wet and muggy, like someone was strangling me.

The Mediteranean was cooler , there were sculptures of stranges ancientes rites.

Guinea Pigs.

The guinea pig was first discovered as early as 5000 BC as food for tribes in the Andes. Guinea pigs are large rodents, weighing between 700 and 1200 g and measuring between 20 and 25cm. They live for 5 to 8 years. They are social animals, living in the wild in small groups consisting of several females, a male, and an infant. They move together in groups and eat grass or other vegetation. They are nocturnal creatures.... like some of my class mates.

The use of guinea pigs in scientific experimentation dates back to the seventeenth century when the Italian biologist Marcello Malpighi conducted dissections with guinea pigs in their examination of anatomic structure.

We had brunch at 11 o’clock, or quater past eleven or half past eleven. There were tomatoes, eggs, bacon, beans, potatoes, cereals, chocolate croissants, bread with jam, hot drink and cold drink. At afternoon, we visited with the leader Duchy college. Then we played basketball.

Thursday, July 14^th

We went to lecture in the morning to learn english. In the afternoon, we played football, basketball and field hockey. Other people decorated for the evening CASINO. There was blackjack, pocker, find the ball, 8 American, roulette. We used our winning for the color stome.

On Thursday morning, we ate breakfast with lots of chocolate croissants and with our friends. We went to English lessons and we wrote a story. Then, we mimed our story. We had a long break to speak and go out. We returned in classroom and we worked. We ate our lunch. It was a cheeseburger with a salad. We had free time to write to our parents or listening to music. We decorated Sam’s for Duchy’s Casino. Others participated in the sports competition. Lots of people were croupiers and other people were playing games like poker, black jack, 8 American...
